Nylon March 2011

A little late in posting this. I'll put up April soon too.

Worst. Assistant. Ever.

He falls asleep at the shoot, won't carry anything, and I don't understand a word he's saying. On the up side he does work for belly rubs.

I'm an animal lover and a bit of a cat lady when it comes down to it. This is my cat, Motoquinha (it means little motorcycle in portuguese) who I adopted from Barc Shelter when he was little. Sometimes I'll bring him along to the studio when I've been working late multiple days in a row, which he thinks is pretty much the greatest thing in the world. Here he is luxuriating around Nylon's beauty products, and who won't love that? Wednesday I'll post the tears from this shoot.

Anthony Luciano's studio and details

In addition to shooting Anthony's stunning hand bags in my studio, I also shot his studio where he hand makes the purses, clutches, and bags. Anthony is known for incorporating vintage hardware into many of his bags which pour out of drawers waiting for just the right hand bag to be a part of. These images will be in his up-and coming new website, meanwhile be sure to 'like' him on Facebook to see more of his (and some of my) work, or see his collection in person at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City.

NYT Blog

My image appears in the New York Times Blog. I love the opening of this article by Holly Siegel. "If you follow [fragrances], you rapidly lose the impulse to bat an eyelash when told a scent is inspired by a flower that actually has none (Marc Jacobs Daisy) , a chick flick (Fresh’s Eat Pray Love trio) or the High Line (Bond No. 9)."

The Power of Six book cover

This shoot was SOOO much fun. Thanks to the creative minds at Harper Collins, we made this fun book cover. It's the second in a series by Pittacus Lore. The first being I am Number Four which has been turned into a movie to be released 2.18.11. Check out the trailer here: http://findnumberfour.com/

The book is due out August 23rd, 2011

New book cover is out!

I LOVED working with the guys over at Little Brown. I got to shoot a beautiful piece of leather in just the right light. An additional perk was exploring the many leather stores in the garment district. The book, Monster High: The Ghoul Next Door, is the second in a series by Lisi Harrison. The books will be on shelves April 2011!

Winter

Santa left me a new point in shoot camera for Christmas (seeing how the last one he left was made in 2001, but I digress). Here is what my holiday looked like:

Since my stand-by studio camera is arguably one of the most heavy medium format cameras (Fuji GX680) and therefore is on a stand at all times, the freedom of caring around a little camera everywhere is an experience I'd almost forgot, and one that I missed.

Joseph Murray Jewelry

January seems to always start with a lul, so I've been taking advantage of the past few days to create a new printed portfolio. While going through old images and retouching new ones, I found this.

The necklace is by Joseph Murray (you can find his work in Bergdorf Goodman). I love the stones he uses and his pieces are so natural in form. I can't get enough of them. Joseph gave me a lot of creative license in lighting the shots and I love how the stones play with light creating this variegated shadow.
